Not to bum everybody out, but this report from the Associated Press is one for every parent to consider. Currently four out of five adults struggle with joblessness, near-poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives. And all indications are that ratio may get worse. In other changes of interest, the US is statistically close to having a non-white majority, and marriage rates are declining across all races.
We think these types of shifts are all to often absent from discussions around how to best prepare our children for the futures they are going to be facing. Even if they themselves manage to avoid dealing with poverty in their own lives, how can they best help to change the equation for all kids?
We’d love to hear your thoughts on how you see the future unfolding for your kids.
